Deliverables list

D.2.1 REPORT ON THE HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION SERVICES IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

This document presents an overview of the main High Performance Computation services provided by Romanian or international companies, that are currently available for R & D activities in Romanian companies. There is also included a detailed description of the activities performed into the project in order to identify the main interests of the PECSA beneficiaries in scientific research. Project beneficiaries are the companies located in TETAROM Industrial Park.

D.2.2 REPORT ON THE HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION SERVICES IN BUSINESS ACTIVITIES

This document presents an overview of the main High Performance Computation services provided by Romanian or international companies, that are currently available for sustaining business activities in Romanian companies. There is also included a detailed description of the activities performed into the project in order to identify the main interests of the PECSA beneficiaries in performing business activities based on High Performance Computation services. Project beneficiaries are the companies located in TETAROM Industrial Park.

D.2.3 SPECIFIC SCENARIOS FOR FLEXIBLE USE OF HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION SERVICES IN SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL PARKS

In order to establish the initial set of HPC services that could be useful for the platform’s beneficiaries, we have used a scenario based approach, documented in this deliverable, to identify the most common usage scenarios in scientific and technological parks. These scenarios offer the necessary support and context to identify the challenges who are common to more than one company and, at the same time, to design solutions for addressing them.

D.3.1 REQUIREMENTS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF A HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION PLATFORM THAT PROVIDES SERVICES FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND BUSINESS ACTIVITIES

This document describes the proposed software and hardware architectures for the implementation of the PECSA Platform, based on the results obtained during the activities A.2.1 and A.2.2. The main outcome of these activities consist on the identification of the High Performance Computation needs of the small and medium companies located in the TETAROM Industrial Park.

D.3.2 HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION PLATFORM FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT SERVICES

This deliverable documents the architectural design of the PECSA infrastructure, according to the results from the activities A.2.1 and A.2.2, that focused on identifying the high performance computation requirements of the small and medium businesses from the TETAROM Industrial Park.

D.3.3 BASIC SOFTWARE COMPONENTS FOR PROVIDING SOFTWARE AS A SERVICE, PLATFORM AS A SERVICE AND INFRASTRUCTURE AS A SERVICE

The flexibility of provided services and the possibility to customise them according to the beneficiaries’ needs represent essential elements in supporting activities of the latter. This document describes the software components that have been identified as necessary in order to facilitate the access of SMEs to the three main categories of products from the HPC platform: SaaS, PaaS and IaaS.

D.3.4 REPORT ON HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION PLATFORM USAGE BY SCIENTIFIC AND BUSINESS COMMUNITIES

Through the use of automatic monitoring tools different parameters of the HPC infrastructure have been recorded. Measurements give some insights on platform’s performance in specific scenarios, so fine-tuning configurations can be made to optimise the results. Conclusions and design decisions have been described in this deliverable.

D.4.1 IMPLEMENTATION OF PILOT TEST CASES IN USING HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION APPLICATIONS FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

With the help of beneficiaries, the most relevant case studies in using SaaS from a high performance architecture have been identified. The approach used to implement these case studies and relevant usage scenarios have been included in this document for later reference.

D.4.2 IMPLEMENTATION OF PILOT TEST CASES IN USING HIGH PERFORMANCE PLATFORM LEVEL SERVICES FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

Most of the time, the beneficiaries of PaaS level are software developers or companies that promote digital solutions. In order to validate the capabilities of PECSA platform in this category, we have developed and implemented specific use cases that have been documented in this deliverable.

D.4.3 IMPLEMENTATION OF PILOT TEST CASES IN USING HIGH PERFORMANCE INFRASTRUCTURE LEVEL SERVICES FOR SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT

In order to correctly and efficiently manage HPC resources at the infrastructure levels, advanced knowledge in IT domain is required. This kind of specialisation is difficult to be found in small and medium companies, who do not have the necessary financial resources to sustain it. Addressing this issue, in our HPC platform we have used a graphical user interface over OpenStack middleware, that guides the beneficiaries with minimum technical knowledge on how to manage their resources. Proposed solutions and case studies have been described in the current document.

D.4.4 MANUALS FOR RECOMMENDATIONS, DEVELOPMENT AND USAGE OF HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION SERVICES

For the companies who have the necessary resources and knowledge to independently manage their resources in HPC PECSA infrastructure, we have created support materials like manuals, tutorials and best-practice guides.

D.5.1 EXPERIMENTS BASED VALIDATION OF HIGH PERFORMANCE COMPUTATION SOFTWARE SERVICES BY SCIENTIFIC AND BUSINESS COMMUNITIES

Documenting the scenarios implemented for the beneficiaries constitutes an important argument on platform’s capabilities and encourages new companies to adopt HPC services in their daily activities. Based on these experiences, a working methodology can be defined in order to make the integration processes more efficient.

D.5.2 EXPERIMENTS BASED VALIDATION OF HIGH PERFORMANCE PLATFORM LEVEL SERVICES BY SCIENTIFIC AND BUSINESS COMMUNITIES

Experimental validation of the platform level services from our HPC infrastructure has been achieved through the automated monitoring of the execution parameters while the platform’s resources have been used in performing specific tasks. Results and conclusions of these experiments have been included in this deliverable.

D.5.3 EXPERIMENTS BASED VALIDATION OF HIGH PERFORMANCE INFRASTRUCTURE LEVEL SERVICES BY SCIENTIFIC AND BUSINESS COMMUNITIES

In order to support small and medium companies to better leverage the most flexible level accessible in an HPC platform, the IaaS level, we have defined as examples to follow specific usage scenarios that have been evaluated and validated with the beneficiaries help. The results have been included in this document.
